In deciding what to name our Substack home for the Southern Christian Writers Conference, we were drawn to a Bible verse that has often been a recurring theme at our events and in our interactions with fellow writers.
Psalm 45:1 (in the New King James Version) says:
“My heart is overflowing with a good theme; I recite my composition concerning the King; My tongue is the pen of a ready writer.”
There’s a pattern here of action…the person’s heart is filled with something good, he or she thanks God for and uses words to celebrate this goodness, and the person speaks (and in our case, writes) with an eagerness and excitement to share what God has done.
Look at some of the other translations of this verse…
“My heart is stirred by a noble theme as I recite my verses for the king; my tongue is the pen of a skillful writer.” (NIV)
“Beautiful words stir my heart. I will recite a lovely poem about the king, for my tongue is like the pen of a skillful poet.” (NLT)
“My heart bursts its banks, spilling beauty and goodness. I pour it out in a poem to the king, shaping the river into words.” (The Message)
As Christian writers, we always want to be READY writers. And this is why our site, and its stories, is called “The Ready Writer.”
We want to be ready to share our blessings…our gratitude…our testimonies…our stories.
And we want to be ready in as professional a way as possible in doing so.
“The Ready Writer” will help you get ready to write, so that you can present your work (in whatever form it may be—fiction stories, devotions, newspaper articles, personal essays, magazine articles, poems, children’s books, memoirs, nonfiction books, novels, and other outlets) with style, correctness, efficiency, and success.
Be ready.
Be ready in all ways, and at all times, to present your stories of goodness, nobility, beauty, and loveliness.
Be ready to tell your story of what God has done for you.
Be a truly ready writer.
